Maison d’Hôtes Le Grand Duc was originally the house of the Director of Central Services of the Compagnie des mines d’Anzin, located just opposite.
The latter thus had a privileged position to observe the entrances and exits of the 4000 workers and miners who depended on the Chantier des Mines.
