Since 2005, Valenciennes Métropole Tourism & Congress Bureau has been committed to an ongoing process of improving access.
The "Tourisme et handicaps" (tourism & disability) label was awarded for physical and mental disabilities in 2008 and renewed in 2014 until 2018 for the Valenciennes, Maison Espagnole reception site.
The two other reception sites at Condé-sur-l’Escaut and Sebourg are currently undergoing the labelling process but already have disabled access and a magnetic induction loop system for the hard of hearing.
Each year, Valenciennes Métropole Tourism & Congress Bureau takes part in the Journées Nationales Tourisme et Handicaps (National Tourism and Disability Days) and proposes a treasure hunt in Valenciennes town centre in addition to a "sensory tour" for people with all kinds of disabilities enabling them to discover Valenciennes through their five senses.
Facilities proposed by the Valenciennes Métropole Tourism & Congress Bureau at the reception sites
FOR VISITORS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES :
- Intercom at the entrance to the building,
- Access ramp with guard rail,
- The reception desks have been designed in such a way as to be able to welcome disabled visitors in optimal conditions of comfort,
- Disabled toilets available,
- Parking space near the building,
- A list of public places in Valenciennes with disabled access,
- Staff specially trained to welcome disabled visitors.
FOR VISITORS WITH MENTAL DISABILITIES
- The use of symbols and pictures to identify the different areas,
- Documentation presented in themes combined with pictures,
- Staff specially trained to welcome disabled visitors.
FOR VISITORS WITH HEARING PROBLEMS (non-labelled)
- The possibility to write down information,
- A magnetic induction loop system makes it possible to improve the quality of the conversation: the trip advisor issues the person experiencing hearing problems with the headset, and then turns on the magnetic induction loop which amplifies the sound. This system may only be used if the user is equipped with a compatible hearing aid,
- Staff specially trained to welcome disabled visitors.
